Winter Term Folk Craft, DIY and Boat Building
The Winter season is our opportunity to develop fine woodworking, building, textile and other folk craft skills. We also build a variety a traditional boats and learn both ancient and contemporary sailing arts.
Folk Craft
To rebuild the village we not only need to rediscover vital crafts, we also need to explore the heart of artistry. This is a quest to return to those roots of excellence. We guide you to develop true eloquence and usefulness.
DIY (Do-It-Yourself)
The modern hunter-gatherer not only looks to resources of the land but they also take repurposing and recycling to an art form. Do-it-yourself is a philosophy with its own Renaissance. We craft clothing and tools for both high function and high art.
Boat Building
Explore the ancient history and lore from across the seven seas. We work with experts in marine navigation by ancient and modern methods, throwing in some kayak rolling and technique, culminating into the final project where you make your own traditional skin-on-frame sea kayak. This kayak is a boat built to your body, nearly reshaping you to part seal or selkie.
